Culture & Festivals
Arts and culture have always flourished amidst the inspirational surroundings of Europe’s loveliest scenery and there is a myriad of performances, special events, museums galleries and exhibitions to enjoy.

Cultural Activities

Stunning scenery and culture go hand in hand. Enjoy some of Austria’s great art treasures in Vienna or enjoy operetta evenings at Im Weissen Rössl Hotel in St Wolfgang; Salzburg has a theatre season in the month of July and Zell am See has lakeside performances in August.

Italy is steeped in history where cities like Florence and Venice are open-air museums in themselves.

Switzerland has a wide variety of museums and cultural attractions in Lucerne whilst the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain is a treasure of Moorish architecture.

Food & Wine

The gastronomic delights of a region epitomise the local culture.

The wine regions of Austria and Slovenia produce high quality wine and the schnapps drinks are renowned.

Each region of Italy has its own culinary delights including polenta and fish from the lake, washed down with a top class wine like Valpolicella.

Try some delicious paella or Trevelez ham, specialities of Andalucia in the south of Spain or the tantalising array of Swiss food including wonderful cheeses and wines.

Gardens

Take time out to explore some of the stunning garden scenery and plants. Here are the highlights.

Austria – Kitbüheler Horn alpine garden, the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg and the Volkgarten and Belvedere Botanical Gardens in Vienna.

Croatia – 159 plant species in Opatija’s central park.

Italy – the popular Parco Sigurta near Mantua, Hruska Botanical Gardens in Gardone, Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo on Lake Como, Villa Taranto in Pallanza or the Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore.

Spain – The Alhambra Palace Gardens in Granada where the Moors used water and plants to create a haven of tranquillity.

Switzerland – The Schynigge Platte Alpine Garden near Interlaken or the Botanical Gardens in Lucerne.
