The tree-lined promenade allows for leisurely walks along the water’s edge. If you head further into town you’ll be greeted by pedestrianised, cobbled streets that truly encompass the Mediterranean atmosphere.
Taking the ferry across the lake means you can relax and enjoy the views. You can pick up the ferry from Garda’s lakefront promenade and reach towns like Limone in 3 and a half hours, or Peschiera in 1 hour.
The nearest train station to Garda is Peschiera which can be reached by bus in 30 minutes. From the station you can get to Venice in 1 hour and 30 minutes, or the beautiful city of Verona in only 20 minutes.
Buses to various towns around the lake run from Garda’s bus station on the Corsa Italia. There’s also a free bus service that operates around Garda town between 9am and 12pm and again between 4pm and 7.30pm. The route begins from opposite the Hotel Terminus and makes its way around town towards the Hotel Poiano.

Garda restaurants mainly centre on Italian and European cuisines, with a focus on meat and fish. You’ll find lots on the lakefront, but there are some great hidden spots inland too. And most lakeside bars offer nibbles with an aperitivo, to get your tastebuds tingling.
In the heart of Garda's old town, Bella Venezia is a great place to sample some local favourites and taste the fresh lake fish. The owner Gabi will talk you through all of his dishes, which change daily depending on what's been caught.
With great views of Lake Garda, Hotel Ristorante Miralago is a large restaurant with an extensive fish menu. You can order generous seafood platters, or if you prefer something to yourself, a favourite with the customers is the paella.
On the edge of town is DiVino, ideal for special occasions or as a final holiday meal. The owner Aldo is extremely welcoming and is happy to recommend you wine to go with your tasting menu or à la carte dishes. Everything is professionally presented and delicious.
Perhaps the most well known town on the lake, Garda is the ideal place to explore on foot. The highlight is the lakeside promenade, which is lined with restaurants and shops on one side, and sparkling blue waters on the other. The path stretches 3km to Bardolino, a lovely walk to take at your own pace. Another 5km will take you to the town of Lazise. If you’ve got a bit more energy, and want to see more incredible views, you can walk to Punta San Vigilio, where Winston Churchill once painted, or climb to La Rocca.
Make your way to the lakeside promenade and turn left, following the path along the shore. The 3km stroll usually takes around 45 minutes and is gentle enough for all. On the way, you can admire the stunning views across the water, all the way over to Sirmione. At the end, reward yourself with a cool ice cream from Cristallos gelateria. To get back to Garda, you can walk the same path or catch the ferry.

In-resort Holiday Advisor
The contact details of your resort's Holiday Advisor team will be sent to you via email before you travel. This is handy in case you want to get in touch with them, before you leave, to tap into their local knowledge and ask questions to help you get the most out of your holiday. Then, if you have any questions while you’re away or just want to say hello, you can always drop in at their info points or see them on one of their hotel visits. Alternatively, you can send them a text, give them a call, email them or even tweet them, 24 hours a day – whatever works for you.
All our holidays include shared transfers to and from your hotel. Private transfers can be added when booking. These will be taken by car, 6-seater or minibus, depending on the number of people in your booking.
Make the most of your time away by combining two holidays into one. With a twin-centre holiday, you can choose any hotels in any resorts and we’ll put them together for you – as long as your two picks are from the same arrivals airport. Take inspiration from our customers and combine Garda with Limone.
Give us a call to plan your perfect trip or browse our pre-chosen combinations, which you can book online from our twin-centre holidays page.
Please keep in mind that transfers run on Wednesdays and Saturdays and may involve going via an airport.
If you want to get away from it all, but can't spare seven days, we have three and four night short breaks available in Garda at various hotels and the short transfer means you'll be able to make the absolute most out of your time in Italy.
