Rating 4

Wengen has over 500km of marked footpaths making the Bernese Oberland a walkers paradise with alpine meadows, glacial gorges, crystal clear lakes and dramatic mountains.

Wengen
The walk down from the Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen is one of those walks that will really grab you. As you trek down through alpine scented meadows the depth and sheer size of the Lauterbrunnen valley is guaranteed to impress. If you have some energy to burn you could always do the opposite and trek up.

Murren
Easily accessible paths, such as the Panorama and Flower trails both link to the Almendhubel mountain restaurant. Have a bite to eat whilst enjoying views of glaciers and the towering peaks they sit within; it's your choice, either walk back down to Murren or jump on the funicular. For half day or leisurely full day walks the North Face Trail and Mountain View Trail will keep you entertained. If you really want to get some walking miles under your boots there is a secluded glacial lake called Oberhornsee. Starting in Gimmelwald this walk will take most of the day, so get up early and be prepared for the elements. If you're lucky you may see an ibex, a kind of timid mountain goat

Jungfraubahnen Pass
To get the most out of the walking in the Bernese Oberland the Jungfraubahnen pass will give you unlimited access to the lift system. The pass provides unlimited travel on all trains from Interlaken Ost to Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren and all cableways and trains around the Wengen and Grindelwald areas. With this pass you will have to pay a supplement to reach the final dizzy heights of the Jungfraujoch and the lift system above Murren.
