Walking
There are some fabulous trails around Locarno and the Ticino region. Just above Locarno is the Cardada-Cimetta, with its fantastic views over lake Maggiore and into Italy this a popular place for hiking in the area. The area to the west of Locarno is called the Centovalli, which translated from Italian means 100 valleys. As these valleys wind there way up into the Swiss Alps you will find plenty of pleasant walks. Take a cruise on Lake Lugano to Gandria, a quaint fishing village and walk back to Lugano along the scenic Olive Tree Path. As the path climbs through the narrow streets you will weave your way out of the village before the path reveals the beauty of Lake Lugano and the surrounding woodland.
