Resort Information

Lucerne, with its wealth of history and culture, beautiful lake and surrounding mountains, has so much to offer. The finger like fjords of Lake Lucerne are the meeting point of four Swiss cantons, the birth place of Switzerland and the legends of William Tell. The majestic mountain of Pilatus, where once a dragon was said to live, rises up behind the city and offers superb views and wonderful walking, is easily reached by boat, mountain railways and cable cars. Lucerne itself has a multitude of attractions, including the famous Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and the Swiss Transport museum. Throughout the year many festivals take place in the region and the attractive towns and villages around the lake are connected by one of the world's largest fleets of paddle steamers.

Lucerne
The old quarter of Lucerne retains its charm and character with quaint streets dotted with historical monuments, alfresco paintings, fortifications and churches. The most famous historical sites in Lucerne are the 14th century Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument, which commemerates the brave Swiss Guards who were massacred by a mob during the French revolution. Sitting comfortably alongside the history is a vibrant cosmopolitan city with plenty of riverside cafés and restaurants to relax in.
The city is also an important cultural centre with the recently opened Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre, being one of the city's most important venues for its musical events, including the International Festival of Music (Aug & Sept). Fascinating museums and galleries, which are all well worth a visit include; the Swiss Transport Museum and IMAX cinema, Picasso Museum, and the wonderful Glacial Gardens. All the main museums in Lucerne are free for holders of a Swiss Pass.
