Walking

There are some fabulous trails around Locarno and the Ticino region. Just above Locarno is the Cardada-Cimetta, with its fantastic views over lake Maggiore and into Italy this a popular place for hiking in the area. The area to the west of Locarno is called the Centovalli, which translated from Italian means 100 valleys. As these valleys wind there way up into the Swiss Alps you will find plenty of pleasant rambles leading to pretty traditional hamlets. One such walk visits the Val Vezasca Dam, home to one of the world's highest bungee jumps and the opening scene of James Bond's Golden Eye. It is possible to walk or should you wish use public transport up the valley to Lavertezzo a pretty village with a delightful seventeenth century double arch bridge crossing the valley.
