Located on the northernmost end of Lake Maggiore, Locarno is a beautiful waterfront old town dominated by a vine-clad hillside and has the mildest climate in Switzerland. Its cultural past is evident in the pictuesque old town, the Città Vecchia, with narrow streets and passageways that descend to the Piazza Grande. The area has some great walking and fantastic excursions to fascinate and inspire. There is also a strong festival spirit, with entertainment and evening concerts running throughout the summer months, the highpoint of which is the International Film Festival in August.
