Our opinion

• Very popular, bustling holiday destination • A visit to the Schynige Platte botanical gardens offers spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau • A trip up on the Jungfraujoch to the 'Land of the Eternal Snow' and the UNESCO Natural World Heritage site is a must • Take a cruise on Lake Brienz to Brienz for a traditional wood carving village or Lake Thun to Thun for an awe-inspiring medieval town

Getting about

Interlaken is the hub of the Bernese Oberland. Take a mountain railway, a bus, a train or a lake ferry to the sights, attractions and activites of this fantastic region. Get the most out of the region's excursions by purchasing a regional pass.

By rail

The train transfer from Geneva showcases the scenery of Switzerland; Lake Geneva, vineyard clad hills, alpine meadows and snow capped peaks. From Zurich the journey is shorter, it also passes through spectacular Swiss scenery. Both transfers involve a train change in Berne. If you're on a morning arrival or an evening departure, Berne is a great place for lunch.
