Splendours of Norway Tour Resort Guide

Resort Information

The excellent Splendours tour takes you from the wonderful City of Bergen to three of Norway’s most spectacular Fjords - the Sognefjord, Geirangerfjord and Nordfjord. Memorable visits to the largest glacier in Europe, Jostedalsbreen and the Lake Jolster region are also included. You will stay on the shores of Lake Jolster in the superb Skei Hotel. The hotel is close to the small rural village of Skei in an area of infinite natural beauty. Relax and absorb the magnificent scenery, take a helicopter ride over the glacier or explore the many walking routes in the area.

Day 1 (Sunday) Bergen
Transfer via Thomson transfer coach/mini-bus to the Bergen Hotel and overnight stay.
Day 2 (Monday) Bergen - Lavik - Skei
Optional city sight-seeing tour (3 hrs; approx. £24) before embarking on a coastal cruise through the lovely landscapes to Lavik and a coach tour through Vadheim and Førde to Skei on Lake Jølster and the hotel in time for your evening meal.
Day 3 (Tuesday) Skei - Fjaerland / Glaciers Tour
Either free time to use the excellent hotel facilities and explore the wonderful Lake Jølster area or an optional excursion to Fjaerland (approx. £28) involving a scenic drive along Lake Jølster and past the Bøyumsdal glacier to the small rural community of Fjaerland. Visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum, then via the Supphelle glacier unique for it's amazingly low altitude (only 51m above sea level) and on to afternoon tea at Boyum Glacier. Return to Skei and after dinner a folklore evening with music and dancing.
Day 4 (Wednesday) Skei - Geiranger
An incredible journey through the Våtedal Valley, over Utvik mountain, along the magnificent Nordfjord passing Olden, Loen and Stryn on the way to Hellesvlt for a 1 hour cruise along the spectacular Geirangerfjord, past many famous waterfalls. Continue to Dalsnibba for fabulous views of the fjord. Then proceed back to Skei via Grotli, Hjelle and Lake Oppstryn. (This tour is included in the price)
Day 5 (Thursday) Skei - Briksdal
Activities in Skei or an optional excursion (approx. £40) to Nordfjord as above, and on to the little village of Olden and 20kms along the magnificent Olden valley to the Briksdal glacier, a part of Europe's largest glacier, Jostedalsbreen.
Day 6 (Friday) Skei - Sandane
Leisure time in Skei or optional excursion to Sandane & Nordfjord Folk Museum (approx. £30). From Skei to Klakegg, through the scenic Våtedal Valley to Breim and Sandane, past the thundering Eidsfossen falls to the Nordfjord Folk Museum and a visit to the Gimmestad church dating back to 1692. On the return journey we visit Reed for wonderful views of the Breim Lake, the Norwegian Horse centre and Byrkjelo. After dinner, coffee is served in the Gamlestova, a 260 year old cottage in the hotel grounds, with Norwegian folk tales, music and local history.
Day 7 (Saturday) Skei - Norway in a Nutshell - Bergen
Tour over the Gaular Mountain to Balestrand, then the famous Norway in a Nutshell excursion including a cruise along the Sognefjord to Flåm (approx. 2hrs) and the Flåm Railway, spiralling up 900m to Myrdal. The tour is completed by a train journey to Bergen and overnight at the Scandic Hotel Bergen (luggage is sent separately from Skei).
