From the delightfully pretty scenery of Lake Orta, to the majesty of Milan’s impressive Duomo, this seven night tour introduces you to the wealth of culture and natural beauty to be found around Lake Maggiore. Admire some of the most famous landscapes in Europe such as picturesque Lake Como, cosmopolitan Lugano and the breathtaking Matterhorn. You are based in the small, tranquil resort of Meina, 12km south of bustling Stresa, on Maggiore's western shore. Stresa and other resorts around the lake are linked to Meina by regular public bus and by twice daily ferry connections from June onwards.
Day 1 (Saturday): UK to Meina
Arrival at Verona airport and transfer to the Hotel Villa Paradiso at Meina. Transfer time takes approximately 3 hours.
Day 2 (Sunday): Meina
Information and Relaxation.
A day to hear all the details about the resort and your tour when you meet your Thomson Representative. Plenty of time to relax and explore at will.
Day 3 (Monday): Three Lakes
A full day’s guided excursion to three of Europe’s most celebrated lakes; lovely Lugano, set against a backdrop of Swiss mountain scenery, romantic Como, haven to poets through the centuries and elegant Maggiore
Day 4 (Tuesday): Zermatt and the Matterhorn
An unmissable full day’s guided trip by coach and by train into Switzerland to the glamorous town of Zermatt, where the skyline is dominated by the distinctive peak of the Matterhorn.
Day 5 (Wednesday): Free day
A day at your leisure to either rest and relax by the pool or on the beach or to jump on a local ferry and enjoy the sights of Lake Maggiore.
Day 6 (Thursday): Lake Orta
An afternoon’s guided excursion to one of Italy’s smallest and most scenic lakes, Orta. An optional boat trip (at local charge) will take you out onto the sparkling waters of the lake to the enchanting Island of St. Julius, the jewel in Orta’s crown.
Day 7 (Friday): Milan
A full day’s guided tour, by coach and on foot, of the bustling city of Milan. From the magnificent Duomo and the historic La Scala museum to the renowned fashion emporiums that make this city a shopping mecca for the rich and famous, Milan is an inimitable, buzzing mix of art, culture and modern industry.
Day 8 (Saturday): Meina to UK
Transfer to Verona airport for your flight home or transfer to your chosen second centre. Please note: tours are daily local coach excursions (guided in English) and it is likely that guests from other companies will be on the coach with you. This tour is Saturday to Saturday only and can be taken as the first or second centre of a multi-centre holiday.
