Getting About
Ruhpolding has a local bus service and railway station. The bus takes you to the starting point of the majority of hikes in the Ruhpolding valley. Great value train tickets are available (unlimited travel at weekends for up to 5 people - approx. £20) and children up to & incl. 14yrs travel free. There are also two summer lifts in the area - the Unternberg chair lift and the Rauschberg cable car.
Strollers
The combination of wide valley floors, rolling hills and steeper mountains make Ruhpolding a wonderful area for walking. There are plenty of lovely easy walks along river banks or well signposted circular walks from the village centre that take you through the surrounding flower filled meadows.
Ramblers
There are approximately 290km of marked walks of varying levels and two summer lifts in the area - the Unternberg chairlift and the Rauschberg cable car. A popular walk to take is the "Smugglers' Walk", over the border into Austria - starting from Laubau (on the outskirts of Ruhpolding), walking to the Staubbach waterfall and on over into the Heutal in Austria. Wherever you go you'll find delightful mountain huts and restaurants serving delicious Bavarian specialities. The Ruhpolding tourist office organises guided walks each week and they can provide maps of the area.
