Oberammergau Passion Plays 2010 holidays

Background
Back in 1633, following the Black Death in Oberammergau almost every local family had one or more deaths to mourn and the plague victims swore an oath to portray the suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ every 10 years.
The play was first performed in 1634 on a stage in the cemetery, above the graves of the plague victims. In 1830 the play was first performed on the site of today's Passion Play Theatre that has a beautiful location on the outskirts of the village and now contains 4,720 seats!
Today the Passion Plays attract over 500,000 spectators to experience the spectacular five hour performances by hundreds of amateur actors from the local community, accompanied by a large orchestra and choir.
Almost 2000 locals from the picturesque village of Oberammergau have already begun preparations for the 2010 Passion Plays, making costumes, scenery and carefully growing their beards and hair to preserve the authenticity of this unique event.

Sat-Tues: Enjoy a 4 night stay in Seefeld, experiencing all the resort has to offer, from delightful walks, quaint cafes to a beautiful lake and relaxing meadows. Stay in your choice of accommodation:

• Hotel Batzenhäusl (3*)

Wed: Transfer to Hotel Alpenhof in Oberau bei Garmisch-Partenkirchen for 3 nights, with a free afternoon to spend exploring.

Thu: Transfer to Oberammergau where a visit to the Oberammergau Museum is included. You may also have free time to explore the delightful village centre and admire the intricately painted, flower-decked houses, browse the local craft shops and enjoy a spot of lunch in a local café or restaurant (extra charge).

Passion Play - Part One
5pm-8pm
Evening meal taken at a local guesthouse in Oberammergau
8pm-10.30pm
Passion Play - Part Two
After the play you will be taken back to the Hotel Alpenhof.

Fri: Free time to explore Oberau bei Garmisch-Partenkirchen and surrounding areas.

Sat: Transfer back to the airport.

Packages to the Oberammergau Passion Plays are available all season, Saturday departures only to Innsbruck and must include a stay in Seefeld.
