The dramatic appearance of the Troodos mountains is a landscape untouched by time with tranquil villages, priceless cultural treasures and a range of high quality hotels. Rising up to almost 2000 metres above sea level, bright green pines and tall cedars dominate the higher slopes and the abundance of cooler air and diverse nature trails make this a favourite destination for walking and cycling. The town of Platres is located on the edge of the National Park which is home to rich botanical gardens and the impressive Mount Olympus. Take time to relax and explore the villages and maybe sample the local wines, honey and cheeses.

Getting About
The best way to explore the beautiful Troodos Mountains is with car hire and we have included this in the price of your holiday. The roads are excellent and signs are in English as well as Greek. Explore all this beautiful island and search for special awe-inspiring panoramic views at your own pace.
Strollers
Gentle paths start from the outskirts of Platres and weave through the forests. Discover some of the local villages and take time to wander in some of the narrow streets and sample the relaxed local pace of life.
Ramblers
There are plenty of marked trails that cross the valley sides. Many of these were once old cart trails that have recently been repaired and pass through areas of natural and cultural interest. The Altemis Trail even passes the ruins of some 16th century fortifications.
Hikers
Walk through the juniper forests and find old springs, trees that are over 800 years old and marvel at the views. A hike through the Kalidonia area to the waterfalls or to the top of Mount Olympus are highly recommended.
Sightseeing
With ancient sights at nearly every turn Cyprus is great for sightseeing. The Greek/Roman theatre west of Limassol has been carefully restored and hosts music and drama performances with the sea as a stunning back drop. Paphos is home to the catacombs of Solomon, Tomb of the Kings and outstanding House of Dionysos. For the romantics there is Aphrodite's Rock and the chance of eternal youth!
