The view from the slopes behind St. Gilgen, with the sparkling lake and peaks beyond, is one of the best known landscapes of the Salzkammergut, made famous by the film the 'Sound of Music'. Picturesque scenery, traditional architecture and an excellent choice of activities make this an ideal choice for your holiday base. Take a lake steamer to explore other lakeside villages or just take a leisurely cruise on the ferry to St. Wolfgang. Stroll through the village and browse the many quaint shops or sample the excellent range of bars, restaurants and cafés, while soaking up the charming atmosphere.
