Walking
Obergurgl is the walkers paradise with the region boasting over 1,300km of signposted trails. Walk through green pastures, mountain forests and scenic marshlands, all complimented by the regional flora and fauna.
Walking on the top of the world is an everyday occurrence here with some 20 majestic mountains towering to over 3,000m. The Tourist Office organises a weekly walking programme based around a particular theme with 12 different walks available and 1 high alpine tour, whilst you are with the guide all lifts and buses are included. If you fancy grabbing hold of a walking map and setting out on your own, the Ötztal Card gives you access to the lifts, buses and free entrance or discounts to many facilties and attractions throughout the valley. Challenge yourself to get the Ötztaler Hiker's Pin in Gold, Silver or Bronze depending on how adventurous you are throughout your stay. Just make sure you remember to pick up your stamps at the mountain huts you visit during your stay. An absolute must see is the scenery from the Gamssteig viewing platform at the Top Mountain Star restaurant located at a breathtaking 3,080m! Walk a further 15 minutes and you'll be rewarded with an awe-inspiring 360º panorama of the Italian Dolomites, Ötztal and Stubai Alps.Strollers
Although Obergurgl is more of a hikers destination, strollers can enjoy the marvellous views from the village.
Ramblers
The Ötztal Valley is a walkers paradise with 300km of trails taking in superb views, mountain lakes, alpine flowers and spectacular glaciers. There are lots of medium level walks from Obergurgl to the foot of the Gaisberg glacier (2,500m) or take the summer lifts to the starting point of many wonderful panoramic trails and hikes to welcoming mountain huts.
Hikers
Obergurgl is a hikers parardise, the choice is endless. The Ramolhaus mountain hut is a popular goal or you could try the route to the glacier village Vent. The High Alpine School offers guided hikes to higher peaks such as Wildspitz, Austria's second highest mountain.
