In a magnificent position at the head of the Ziller Valley, and encircled by the spectacular scenery of the Zillertaler Alps, Mayrhofen is one of Tirol's prettiest and liveliest resorts. Here you'll find easy access to superb walking and on selected dates you can join our dedicated walking escort on our Austria Walking Weeks. In the village centre, rustic wood-panelled bars and easy-going pavement cafés line the streets, where craft shops are filled with ornate wood carvings and folklore fashion. Throughout the summer there are festivals of folk-singing and dancing, as well as colourful processions and brass-band concerts, keeping the wealth of local traditions very much alive.

Mayrhofen is a perfect village for a walking holiday, with beautiful scenery spreading out along the Zillertaler Alps, including some National Park areas. In all there are over 200kms of marked walking paths and many huts to stop in along the way for refreshments. From approximately 21/05 the Penken cable car will be open and the spectacular Ahorn cable car will be open approximately 11/06 - the Ahorn cable car is the biggest in Austria.

You can pre-book your walking map and we'll deliver it to your house before you travel. The map is Mayr 33 and includes a booklet of walk descriptions in English.

Our walking escort service (operated by our sister company) will offer 1 or 2 FREE guided walks, as an introduction to the area.

Austria Walking Weeks
Our dedicated walking weeks in Mayrhofen are perfect for keen walkers who can discover the highlights of this beautiful area with our enthusiastic walking escort. As well as pointing out the local flora, fauna and history along the way, your guide will be pleased to give you any walking tips or map reading hints that you need. Our walking weeks include 4 full day guided walks. In Mayrhofen walks will be slightly longer and more strenuous than those offered in Söll and Kitzbühel. Please come prepared with walking boots, rucksack, water bottle, sun cream, hat, suitable clothing including breathable waterproofs and camera!
