Lake Wörthersee

Walking

Both Pörtschach and Velden are ideal spots for a stroll along the prom as the sun sets sending pinkish hues across the sparkling waters. Your footsteps will be the percussion to the many live musicians along the lakefront.

Steamers glide across the turquoise waters to other villages around the lake to explore. Wörthersee’s opposite shore is where you’ll find Maria Worth – where well-marked paths rise up to 850m to the Pyramidenkogel for a ‘worth the climb’ view over the lake below.

Beyond, mountain peaks puncture the horizon, and there’s no better place to enjoy the views than the nearby Karawanken mountains where there’s a wealth of trails to explore if you’re looking for a good day’s walking.

Strollers

Rating 3

Relax and unwind with a stroll along the lakeside promenade - perfect for an evening walk. Stroll to the pace of live music, a regular feature on the lakeside. Frequent boat services on the lake take you to more resorts and ferry stations. From here you can enjoy a stroll back to base or even strike out further afield.

Ramblers

Rating 2

For those looking for a greater challenge, the nearby Karawanken Mountains offer a wealth of harder walks for the more adventurous. Across the lake at Maria Worth, well marked paths take you up to the Pyramidenkogel (850m) from where panoramic views stretch back across the lake to Pörtschach and beyond.
